Introduction for Courses and Programs

IMA training programs designed for a new generation of TV production who want to learn by making their own projects in a hands-on, intensive program... At IMA you will learn by doing from day one. Whether you enroll in a three-week TV workshop, one-year or two-year program you will write, shoot, direct, and edit your own short films. Your teachers will demystify the craft of TV production and challenge you to master the art of visual storytelling.

Learning to be a Director, Editor, and Director of camera, script writer or Audio engineer is not done "by the numbers." It is done by immersion in the process and by knowing the "whys" that teaches the "hows." It is done by hands-on experience, trial and error, feedback and correction, and questions and answers.

We teach the art and craft of TV production through a balance of classroom instruction, hands-on TV workshops, and immediate experience. Students are behind the camera from the first day of class. Students will learn about and explore the numerous visual, dramatic, and technical challenges that TV staff face. In addition to writing, producing, directing, and editing their own films. Ultimately, through intensive hands-on instruction, our goal is to empower students to artfully and originally tell stories.

9 Month Diploma

Our 9 month program gives students the all-around TV experience necessary to makes their own films. In one year, students accomplish what would require two or three years of study at a traditional film school. The year is based on our academic calendar of nine months with two weeks of vacation. Students in the program receive over 1,000 hours of hands-on instruction and actual production experience. They all write, shoot, direct, and edit their own short films. All projects are edited digitally.

Our 9 month program is for people who have the passion to plunge into full-time TV production, but do not want to spend three or four years in a traditional film school. No previous TV production experience is required; however, participants must work with self- discipline, energy and mutual respect.

All Academy programs and courses emphasize hands-on learning. Classes are not theoretical explorations; they are practical workshops designed to give students quick experience. In all camera and lighting classes, students work with the equipment and are taught how to use the equipment to most effectively communicate their ideas.

IMA encourages students to take creative risks and find their own voices as visual artists. Students complete the year in TV production with skills in all the TV crafts.

Nine month TV production students are invited to visit the Academy before the programs begin.
